Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide students with information that will encourage them to think about and practice value-based organizing. The African Principles of Ma'at and Nguzo Saba and Seven Habits of Highly Effective People will be presented as one of the common threads that will run through all organizing decisions and actions. Students will have an opportunity to explore ways of applying the Principles and Habits personally and in their community organizing work.
Objectives:
To introduce and discuss the African principles of Ma'at and Nguzo Saba.
To introduce and discuss the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
To discuss how the Principles and Habits compliment each other.
To pose questions that will encourage students to use the Principles and Habits in all
classes and all organization efforts.
Desired Outcomes at the end of the class:
Students will have beginning knowledge of the Principles and Habits.
Students will agree to seek ways of operationalizing the Principals and Habits in their
personal life and organizing efforts.
